SOME of the UK's biggest companies will come to the market this week at the start of the busiest few weeks of the year for corporate results. Oil giant Royal Dutch Shell will set another profits record when it posts full-year results on Thursday. Soaring oil prices mean broker UBS expects a net income figure in the region of £12.22bn, which far exceeds Shell's previous best of £11.67bn set last year. But the performance in the fourth quarter, when profits are likely to be marginally lower, will carry the most interest for investors. Oil prices have eased by 30% since hitting $77 in August, meaning Shell's production record will be brought into focus. It is likely that output fell marginally in the year, following attacks on its production facilities in Nigeria.

Waiting on Darrell Arthur to make a decision on his basketball future was giving Kansas coach Bill Self heartburn. "We thought he was leaning to Baylor one day, and the next day we thought it was a Kansas lean," Self recalled. Heck, even Texas was on the table for a while for the Dallas South Oak Cliff star as he struggled to decide which uniform to wear. "The bottom line was, he didn't want to make a decision," Self said. "It never got crystal clear for him. He liked all the people who were recruiting him." On May 10, the morning of his scheduled news conference, Arthur called. Self expectantly answered his cellphone. But no deal. Yet. "He asked me a couple of questions, and that was it," Self said. "I'm sure he called other people, too.
How to manage reflux disease
Gastroesophageal reflux disease is one of the most common digestive disorders. It is a condition where stomach acid refluxes upward into the esophagus. Usually, the acid in your stomach is retained by a muscular valve at the end of the esophagus, known as the lower esophageal sphincter. The LES is supposed to remain closed, except when swallowing. If it opens at other times, stomach acid can flow upward (reflux) into the esophagus, causing heartburn. Typical symptoms include an uncomfortable feeling of burning, warmth, heat or pain just behind the breastbone, which is commonly referred to as heartburn. Other symptoms can include nausea, increased belching, regurgitation of food and even chronic cough. Occasional heartburn does not necessarily mean you have reflux disease. In GERD, the symptoms last longer and occur more often.
