| Session targets heart disease in women
A big heart in February, National Heart Month, is more than a valentine. It's a reminder that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, and many women don't realize that the symptoms of a heart attack often are different in women than they are in men. Classic signs of a heart attack include chest pain, shortness of breath, pain in the arm and tightness in the chest. But women often have less recognized symptoms, including indigestion, back pain or abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting. Women can learn about heart disease and steps to prevent it at the fourth annual Women Take Heart Conference 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 17 at Five Seasons Country Club in Crestview Hills. The program is sponsored by St. Elizabeth Women's Wellness, part of St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Dr. Patricia Grodecki of Cardiology Associates will discuss heart disease in women.
Sleep for success: A how-to
College life presents a plethora of new temptations that may throw off the normal routine of a young adult. Going from a more solid regimen throughout high school, to an exciting environment and different schedule can have its effects on the body. Feeling just plain bad your first few weeks of college could have something to do with your new lifestyle and habits. Getting less sleep is one of the changes you may have made to your schedule in an effort to finish up homework or cram for tests. The thing you may not realize is how you're changing yourself by sacrificing those few hours of shut eye. Sleep helps your body fight fatigue and stress, so when you get those late night headaches, your best bet is to succumb to slumber (However, if you're prone to headaches, you might not want to oversleep as doing so will actually make things worse).
How Will Brewers' Outfield Play Out?
When the temperature is stuck on the over / under for Bucks victories for the rest of the season and there is no football this weekend, it's comforting to know that four of the sweetest words of the winter - pitchers and catchers report - are just three weeks from happening. So while adjusting your mental clock to Maryvale time, here are a few Brewers items to digest between now, the onset of Super Bowl Sunday acid indigestion, and the start of spring training. Bill Hall will be the new guy in center once he is paid, Corey Hart will start in one of the corners and someone will have to go in the overcrowded outfield. And it might not be Geoff Jenkins, despite all the drama that accompanied what was basically accepted as Jenkins' final home appearance in a Brewers uniform last season.
